Platypus: Free crochet pattern

Get ready for a dose of cuteness! πŸ˜ƒ If you’re a crochet enthusiast with a penchant for weird and wonderful creatures of the world, you’re in for a real treat. Today I’m sharing a pattern for a crocheted, cuddly platypus. So grab your hook and yarn, because adventure awaits in the form of this adorable and completely free platypus pattern!

In this project I use YarnArt Dolce (100g/120m) yarn. You can use any super bulky or bulky yarn in your work. Just remember that when using a different yarn, the size of the mascot may be different. You can use completely different colours of yarn, it's up to you. 😊

Finished size approximately - 21 cm (with tail).

Yarn colours (less than 1 skein each):
  • colour A - YarnArt Dolce NR 799 - Apple green
  • colour B - YarnArt Dolce NR 855 - Dark nude

1. Before you start
  • In the project I use US terminology.
  • We work in a spiral, adding the filling while crocheting.
  • You can use any plush yarn in your project.

  • dec - decrease
  • sc - single crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • pc - popcorn stitch:
    • pc (6 dc) - pc made from 6 dc,
    • pc (8 dc) - pc made from 8 dc.

  • Hook - 5 mm
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers
  • 2 safety eyes - 12 mm or any you want
  • Stuffing fibre
  • Yarn
4. Instruction

Tail:
1. B: 8 sc in MR (8)
2. 8 inc (16)
3. (sc, inc) x8 (24)
4-5. 24 sc (24) (2 rounds)
6. (sc, dec) x8 (16)
7. (2 sc, dec) x4 (12)
8. (sc, dec) x4 (8)
9. 8 sc (8)
Don't stuff the tail. 
Fold in half and close with 3 sc. 


Beak:
1. B: 5 ch (5)
2. 3 sc, inc, rotate, 3 sc, inc (10)
3-4. 10 sc (10) (2 rounds)
5. (4 sc, inc) x2 (12)
Don't stuff the beak.
Don't cut the yarn. Change colour.

Head:

Stuff the body.
Fasten off and close the hole by pulling your tail through the front loops of stitches and pull. 

Assembly:
  • If you want, embroider pink cheeks.
  • If you want, you can add white eye details.
