Baby Penguin: Free crochet pattern

Hi!

Today one of my older designs but still a cute little penguin. The pattern is simple and contains few sewing elements. Making a penguin doesn't take much time, so I encourage you to try it.

In this project I use YarnArt Dolce (100g/120m) yarn. You can use any super bulky or bulky yarn in your work. Just remember that when using a different yarn, the size of the mascot may be different.

Finished size approximately - 12 cm.

Yarn colours (less than 1 skein each):

• colour A - YarnArt Dolce NR 749 - Baby blue
• colour B - YarnArt Dolce NR 745 - Light cream
• colour C - YarnArt Dolce NR 747 - Light brown

1. Before you start

• In the project I use US terminology.
• We work in a spiral, adding the filling while crocheting.
• You can use any plush yarn in your project.

• dec - decrease
• sl st - slip stitch
• sc - single crochet

3. Materials

• Hook - 5 mm
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors
• Stitch markers
• 2 safety eyes
• Hollow fibre
• Yarn

4. Instruction
Beak:
1. C: 4 sc in MR (4)
2. (sc, inc) x2 (6)
3. sl st

Leave a short piece of yarn for sewing.

Feet (x2):
1. C: 6 sc in MR (6)
2. (sc, inc) x3 (9)
3. sl st

Leave a short piece of yarn for sewing.

Wings (x2):
1. A: 5 sc in MR (5)
2. 5 inc (10)
3. (sc, inc) x5 (15)
4-6. 15 sc (15) (3 rounds)
7. (sc, dec) x5 (10)

Don’t stuff the wings.
Fold in half with 5 sc.
Leave a short piece of yarn to secure the wings inside the body.

Body:
1. A: 8 sc in MR (8)

5-9. 32 sc (32) (5 rounds)

Place the ends of the yarn (arms) inside the body and tie.

Head:
14. A: 3 inc, B: 6 inc, A: 7 inc (32)

* Make the second sc in inc with blue colour.

16-19. A: 5 sc, B: 19 sc, A: 16 sc (40) (4 rounds)

21. A: 7 sc, B: 5 sc, A: 5 sc, B: 5 sc, A: 18 sc (40)

Place safety eyes between rounds 19 and 20, 6 stitches apart.

Stuff the head.

Fasten off and close the hole by pulling your tail through the front loops of stitches and pull. 

Assembly:

• Sew the beak between the eyes.
• Sew the feet.
• If you want, embroider pink cheeks.
• If you want, you can add white eye details.
